CCIA Supports Resolution Against Internet Tax Collection
7/29/2010
The Computer & Communications Industry Association applauds Rep. Paul Hodes, D-N.H., for introducing H. Res. 1570, a resolution with co-sponsors on both sides of the aisle that would stop any new burdensome or unfair tax collecting requirements on small online businesses.  Rep. Hodes is a leader who understands how important the continuing development of e-commerce is to our economy.

The following statement can be attributed to CCIA President and CEO Ed Black:

“It is heartening to know that there are those willing to stand up in support of innovation and entrepreneurship and would oppose contrary measures such as H.R. 5660 that would effectively draft online vendors into service as remote sales tax collectors.

“CCIA has long opposed taxes on e-commerce, which would burden on-line vendors with the task of sorting through the policies of thousands of taxing authorities around the country, and forcing them to serve as revenue collection agencies for each of them. Small businesses from mom and pop operations to entrepreneurial companies may close if faced with such a legal and accounting nightmare.

“Innovation and entrepreneurship have always been the engines of our economic growth. It is counterproductive to add to the administrative burdens of small businesses at the very moment we need them to provide jobs and lead our economic recovery.  Rep. Hodes and his colleagues understand that the last thing small businesses need in these tough economic times is to have the government add to their already significant challenges.”
