CCIA Welcomes Introduction of Immigration Innovation Act
1/29/2013
The Computer & Communications Industry Association
(CCIA) welcomes the introduction the Immigration Innovation Act
today. CCIA has long promoted skilled immigration reform as critical to
maintaining and strengthening the global competitiveness of U.S. companies in
an increasingly innovative economy. This bill includes such reforms
as: increasing the H-1B visa cap and making it market-flexible; exempting
advanced STEM degree holders from both the H-1B and employment-based green card
cap; rolling over unused employment-based green card numbers.
The following can be attributed to CCIA President & CEO
Ed Black:
“These measures will increase companies’ access to skilled
foreign-born workers who have affirmatively shown their belief in the U.S. as
the best place to utilize their skills, and will free entrepreneurial companies
to compete in the global talent marketplace.”
“By addressing both the short-term problems of visas and
green cards, and investing in the longer-term issue of STEM education and
training, this bill is a solid step in ensuring that the U.S. remains the
global center of innovation. We look forward to the inclusion of such
measures in any immigration reform legislation to be considered by Congress
going forward.”
