CCIA Welcomes Senate Immigration Reform Bill
4/17/2013
The Computer & Communications
Industry Association welcomes the introduction of the Border Security, Economic
Opportunity & Immigration Modernization Act. We commend Senators
Schumer, McCain, Durbin, Graham, Menendez, Rubio, Bennet and Flake for their
fortitude in taking up the difficult challenge of immigration reform and
beginning the actual legislative process.
The following statement can be
attributed to CCIA President & CEO Ed Black:
“The introduction of this bill marks
the beginning of the legislative process for addressing comprehensive immigration
reform, and this language provides a solid foundation. The status quo on
immigration is untenable and Congress needs to act now if we are to move
forward as a nation. These eight senators have shown their leadership by
confronting this controversial issue and beginning the hard work to find a
solution.”
“Ideas and research from talented
people are the raw materials with which the technology industry has been built,
and CCIA has long called for skilled immigration reform as a way to ensure
their continued supply. Therefore, we are encouraged that this comprehensive
bill updates the skilled immigration system to better match the reality of a
global competition for talent. We look forward to engaging with Congress
as the legislative process moves forward.”
