CCIA Praises Chopra Appointment As Chief Technology Officer
4/18/2009
Washington – The following statement is in response to President Obama’s
announcement today that he is naming Aneesh Chopra to the post of Chief
Technology Officer. It can be attributed to Ed Black, the President and CEO
of the Computer & Communications Industry Association:
“At a time when innovation can be key to boosting the economy, this
appointment shows the Obama team’s keen understanding of the role of
technology in an innovation, ideas-based economy and its ability to attract
top talent.
“Chopra devoted many hours to the Obama transition team’s technology,
innovation and government reform working group. During this work, he was a
key advocate for using technology and the Internet to collaborate on
projects, make information more accessible, and hold elected officials more
accountable.
We look forward to seeing him bring these principles as he guides changes
in the federal government.
“Obama said part of Chopra’s job will be to expand the use of technology to
boost broadband access. With those marching orders and Chopra’s abilities
we look forward to seeing expanded, affordable access to an open Internet
and the increased economic activity that comes from it.”
