Cybersecurity

Issues of domestic security have become the nation's top priority since September 11, 2001. Yet, even as the White House is completing new doctrines for homeland defense, cybersecurity occupies a twilight zone in the national security infrastructure. One day, the Administration's top cybersecurity official declares all wireless networks hopelessly insecure. A few months later, his own unit comes to a different conclusion, and issues a report urging federal agencies to use the "best" available technologies to secure those same networks. Sometimes government seems alarmed about security. Other times, the topic elicits little more than a yawn.

There can be no doubt that information security is difficult. But government leaders must carry out a consistent, logical and effective policy for the defense of cyberspace. CCIA, in conjunction with its membership and other experts, urges the Administration to move swiftly to ensure that our networks are secure.
